That was the danger. Not that betrayals happened, not that cruel things happened, but that they could outweigh all the good. That we could forget the good and only remember the bad. This quote reminds us of the village of Three Pines! Despite the cruel things that often happen in and around the village, we would move there in a heartbeat. Do you agree? I was a huge Anne Perry fan and bemoaning to group of friends that I had just learned she had died. One spoke up and recommended Louise Perry’s Gamache series. I have now read the first eighteen books twice each and can’t wait for The Grey Wolf.

I was born and raised in Montreal. I feel like I’m home again ( I now live in Alberta and miss Quebec) when I read all of your books.
Armand sounds like someone I would know and like as a friend, as Three Pines would definitely be a place I would feel totally at home in.
I would instantly fit in with my neighbours. I probably would wander around wanting to help with the investigations and being a nuisance.

I live in Three Pines already because it dwells inside me! Every day I remind everyone to recite Armand’s mantra of life lessons learned: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me… etc.”

The writing in the entire series speaks to me and Gamache is so quotable that I keep a list of his statements!

I too, must go to the Old City and “look for Gamache everywhere”. Loved the sentiment behind that sentence.

At one time a few years back I took a tour of Montreal of the sites mentioned in Bury Your Dead. I enjoyed the tour and the presentation from the woman who led the tour.

This quote, I think, is the at the heart of the series and explains why we all love Gamache so much. He is the guardian that keeps us from despair. No matter what he faces, he is able to remember that man is redeemable and life is a gift

In today’s world, it is vital for us to find the good in all the “bad” that surrounds us. Just take time to do that and your will find much good and see much beauty and you will become grateful, happier, and a more positive person.

My favorite Gamache book. The grief he carries touched me so as it spoke to the love he has for his team. His reverence for life and his deep sorrow were palpable. As he retells the incident I was unnerved by command and their indifference
I read this while in the Old City.,Quebec and looked for Gamache everywhere
Love love the series, adore Gamache and ThreePines associates; the place and his neighbors offer solace and comfort to him and me
Bravo Louise Penny!!!

“Solace and comfort” exactly why I love these books. Ms Penny spins a yarn that completely takes me out out my day-to-day life. I’m so grateful.

Every time I read one of her books I get hungry for a good crosoint and hot chocolate I think it is interesting that Louise said Gamache is patterned on her husband What a great man

I agree. There are 2 bakeries here in Erie Pennsylvania that make wonderful croissants and I find I can easily get in a habit of eating more of them when immersed in these books! And of course Cafe au lait as well.

Inspector Gamache and the Three Pines community were my best buddies during COVID. I binged on the series and anxiously awaited the arrival of each new book. I can’t wait sink into The Grey Wolf!

It’s easy to loose sight of the good when you’re overwhelmed by the poor or hurtful- but, it’s important to keep hold of what is good and valued and cherish it!

I fell in love with Armand when you described the scent he wore as a combination of lavender and sandalwood. Ahhhhh!

I live in a small town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I don’t want to go further north, but I understand the beauty, the ambience, and how everyone lives everyone else’s lives. So I’ll stay here and not have to relearn French. But reading Louise’s books make me feel very reminiscent.

Even despite the alarming body count for a tiny village like Three Pines, I would totally live there! Imagine days browsing the bookstore, having a lovely fireside lunch at The Bistro, then going for a walk along the river and through the woods. It’d be a great place for reading, relaxing, enjoying nature, and raising a Golden Retriever or two! ♡

Without a doubt the Gamache Series are my favorite books I have ever read. I am 72 years old. Please keep writing for another 20 years. I would be so sad to see these stories end! Thank you for each and every story!

I did a binge book read last summer and reread book one to current. I do this every few years for pleasure and comfort.

The peaceful atmosphere in Three Pines is deliberately created and maintained by its residents, with a splash of spiced added by Ruth.

I think it would be amazing if the publisher would organize a traveling tour out of the States to go up to this area of Canada and visit key sites and stay at Manoir Hovey.

There are several tours, Google Three Pines Tours. One is led by a woman from Montreal, and there’s a Quebec tour covering this book.
